Just checking. The two DC's only refer to each other for DNS, right?

Hi NG
This is a a site with 53 users. SBS 2003 as primary. A BDC was added last
Thursday, and today the network became so slow it was impossible to work.
We had to remove the BDC, run the ntdsutil and metadata cleanup, remove
all the entries (DNS, DHCP, etc) and reboot the SBS. Sure enough, the
network once again is fast. The question is why?
SBS: 192.168.75.1
BDC: 192.168.75.2
The BDC was also set as catalog server (in addition to the SBS), so it
can authenticate in case of SBS failure.
DNS was installed on the 75.2, and the DHCP scope option (on the SBS) was
updated accordingly(All clients are DHCP), so clients had both as .1& .2
as DNS servers.
Replication worked smooth, forwarding was fast, so what was wrong??
TIA
