Indeed the 1058 was refering to a userenv source. Sorry I forgot.
I looked at the document linked to below and focussed at the part copied in:
"The following comments are applicable to this event with "Access denied" as
error code for the {31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9} group policy
(Default for a domain) on a Windows 2003, SP1 domain controller:
- Verifying the actual GPT.INI file revelead that it was not recently updated"
I scanned my C:\drive for any gpt.ini file, but it was not found in this
{31B2...} entry, but only gpt.ini's were found in the
{D8C95858-7291-4463-ACEO...) entry. Seems not okay to me.
Next to that I used the GPO to look for the policies; when I try to access
the "Group Policy Objects", "Clientcomputer for Small Business Server" the
system responds that this file does not exist. Is that normal ?

Here is a link to the 1058 error. In general, the number alone doesn't tell.
us much. We need to know at least the source and even better the details. In
case of your 1058 I assumed that the source is Userenv.

Claus,
At about the same time the 5703 occurs, there is also a 1058-error, which
indicates group-policy problems. Perhaps there is a strong relationship?

Yes, I patched the SBS server with the actions mentioned in KB
926505 .
Currently I have no problems signing in from desktops, but also my
other
notebook, which runs XP Pro has similar issues. I also use login
scripts
to
assign netword devices at logon time. They also are not executed on
the
notebooks with XP and Vista.
In the logging I find a Netlogon 5703 errror which indicates a path
error.
Hopefully this refers to the path for the profile or scripts.
Does anyone know the search process of a Vista machine for the
profile
data ?

I use an SBS 2003 instance with 5 workstations. In some cases I do
not
get
the profile data from the server to my workstation.
Especially now, when I am installing a new workstation with Vista
Business
I
experience this problem.
Any ideas to solve this ?
