i would use a more specific program to handle the tiff's.
ie photoshop to open the files and analyse them more accuratelly to try and
understand a little better what is going on.

I am having problems with viewing faxes which are tif attachments in
outlook.
Background system information:
Win2003SBS Prem. Network with mail system configured to deliver all mail
to
receptionist with faxes received as .tif attachments. This user recently
had
a new PC which is running Vista 64 bus. with Outlook 2007. The user
account
has administrative rights to the local machine. As this user receives all
of
the company's mail and forwards it on to others she has an Exchange mail
box
that it is a struggle to keep below 2Gbs (which seems to be a limit).
More detail on problem and attempted resolutions:
Initially the problem was reported that multipage faxes would only display
the first page and if you tried to open page 2 you were shown a page from
another fax from months ago. However the default .tif viewer could handle
multipage faxes if used independently of Outlook and if the e-mail, with
fax
attachment was forwarded it another user it could be opened (i.e. the file
itself was OK). I logged in as administrator and had no problem so I
uninstalled and reinstalled Office and the problem went away. A few days
later the user was back with 'unable to view faxes at all' on clicking on
the
attachment you get an unable to create fax.tif . On searching this group I
found others with a similar problem and the solution was to delete temp
files
in that users
..\temporary internetfiles\OLKxx\*.* problem solved. A few days later
problem returns this time I find I can not get to the OLK directory as
user
or administrator due to corruption in the tree (tried to reapply rights
and
take ownership but unable to get into 'temporary internet files' or
sub-dirs.
Managed to delete and re create dirs - problem solved. User back again
today,
same problem, but this time no obvious corruption, no files in OLK dir the
only new twist is on clicking the .tif the bottom pane now displays
"The file cannot be previewed because of a problem with the following
previewer:
Microsoft office image previewer
To open the file in its own program, double-click it."
Dbl clicking brings up an 'Open or Save' dialogue box, Open gets you
'unable
to create fax.tif' save lets you brows to a folder and click Save but
regardless of where you try and save nothing happens (no error msg). If
you
right click the fax you can 'copy' but when you try and 'paste' nothing
happens and no error message. Creating a new text file the OLK dir is not
a
problem.
I have two other vista machines with the same O/S & hardware spec but the
users run Outlook 2003, a run time Access app and no other Office software
(no problems but very light users Mail or Office apps).
Something is obviously not happy and causing corruption but what? Any/all
thoughts gratefully received.
Jonathan Jackson.
