Re: Exchange maintenance tools ????

A word of caution on this! Exchange offline defrag is done daily automatically but the Mailbox Maintenance Schedule spoken of here is either Never Run (Default) Weekly Sat Morn Weekly Sun Morn or Custom Schedule. Be aware that you should be VERY careful in implementing a schedule in realizing that users may lose emails they are used to keeping for long periods of time especially in small organizations where space is not at a premium. Don't implement this suddenly without notice and without considering the impact of the change!

Others in the group might have a different opinion but I have been working with Exchange for a very long time, managing 50+ systems and I have never used anything but the tools that come with Exchange.

I you schedule through the Exchange Maintenance Wizard (I do this once a week) and you keep proper daily backups (again within SBS I use the native backup wizard), you will be fine.

One of the most common issues come up when administrators run AntiVirus programs and forget to exclude the Store from scanning.

I have 6 SBS2003 systems that I maintain. I have never done any maintenance
on the exchange server itself in 5 years but maybe I've just been lucky. I
read many tales of exchange going off the deep end due to the lack of
propercare.

What tools are required to properly maintain exchange?

I hear a lot about the product "GoExchange". Does it work ok in SBS? Is it
really necessary?

What do you use to keep exchange healty?

Looking forward to your input

Joe
