Andrew,
Besides the "MS method" Merv posted,
Strongly consider the "SwingIt!" Swing Migration most seasoned consultants
use.

I'll save you at least hours if not days migrating your AD leaving your
workstation configurations completely intact with minimal modifications.

problems whenever there's a hardware failure. I'm confused about what to do
and would welcome some guidance:
a) Restore A/D to new hardware.
When the SBS2K3 server hardware has to be replaced, how do we restore the
active directory to the new hardware in a form that the workstations will
recognise as being the same domain? From reading Microsoft's explanation, it
seems that standard backups should be restored to identical hardware, which
is clearly not feasible.
b) (Re-)Connecting PCs to the domain without losing the user's settings.
If a workstation loses its 'trust' status with the domain controller, how
does one re-establish the trust without ending up creating new user profiles?
It seems that the documented process - leave domain and join workgroup;
reboot; leave workgroup and rejoin domain - always creates new user profiles.
Similarly, if the workstation was not connected to the domain in the first
place, how does one connect it *and* keep the user profile settings?
Apologies if these seem very basic questions - I haven't been able to find
explanations that I understand, and have no formal Microsoft training.
