Re: SBS 2003 raid1 C: drive failed - need guidance quickly

So finally my point to all of this is:

1) How do I recover my server from a broken backup?
2) I am assuming that I can get the files that I need from the
corrupted backup file.
3) I need to restore: the domain, exchange, sharepoint - exchange is
critical.
4) If I can't restore exchange, is there a local copy (per user, per
machine) of a mail file (outlook.pst) that I can import once I
reinstall exchange from scratch?

I don't really have time to research this myself, and risk making a
critical mistake, or causing myself to lose valuable time, so I am
asking for help. Does anyone know of documentation/processes that
will assist me in my efforts to recover this server/domain?

So your backup drive only had one backup on it? I normally retain the
most recent five on each drive and swap drives periodically.

And, lesson learned about why regular test restores are a good idea.

But to your questions: Given that the recovery utility can apparently
read the .BKF file, I would not automatically assume it is really
corrupted, despite Windows XP NTBackup apparently not reading it.

Given your situation, my plan of attack would be to follow the Microsoft
document you reference and see if the backup file might be readable by
Windows Server NTBackup using the server hardware on which it was
created. If it's NOT readable, you haven't really wasted any time
because - lacking a viable System State backup - you would still need to
reinstall SBS from original media, and you will be part way through that
process.

If the backup cannot be restored per the recommended procedure, post
back for additional suggestions.
