RE: RWW Fatal Error

Hi Moyondizvo,

Thanks for posting here.

From your post, I understand the following event was found in server
performance report:

The following fatal error occurred in the Remote Web Workplace application:
URL: https://mail.domainname.org/Remote/admin.aspx
Error Message: Input string was not in a correct format.
Stack Trace: at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles
options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal)

Before we go any further, I would appreciate your help in clarifying the
following questions:

1. When did this issue begin to occur?
2. Have any setup changes been made recently?
3. Is there any problem when using RWW? If so, please include the exact
error message.

This issue can be caused by several factoring including RWW problem and IIS
configurations. We can perform the following steps to troubleshoot this
issue:

Step 1: Rerun the CEICW to confirm the RWW is properly published:
===============
Go through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again carefully.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

Detailed steps for your reference:

1. On the SBS 2003 Server open the Server Management console. Go to
Standard Management\To Do List.
2. Click the "Connect to the Internet" link.
3. When navigating to the Firewall page, select "Enable firewall" and click
Next (I suppose you have 2 network adapters in SBS 2003).
4. On the "Services Configuration" page, select all the items and then
click Next.
5. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, make sure "Allow access to the
entire Web site from the Internet" is selected. If you select "Allow access
to only the following Web site services from the Internet", make sure all
item in the list are selected. Click Next.
6. On the "Web Server Certificate" page, choose to create a new Web server
certificate and then type the public FQDN (your new DNS name) that you will
use to access OWA and RWW (for example, if your public FQDN that you use to
access the sites is www.xyz.com, you should type www.xyz.com as the new
certificate name).
7. Go through the remaining steps.

Step 2: Check IIS configurations
===============
1. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager console in
''Administrative Tools''. Navigate to ''Web Sites''\''Default Web Site''.
2. Right-click it and choose ''Properties''.
3. Click ''Directory Security'' tab, Click ''Edit'' button for ''IP address
and domain name restrictions'', please remove all entries in the box and
click the "Granted Access" option.
4. The problem may also relate to the .NET framework version. To check
this, please use the following steps:
------------------
a. Open the Properties page of the ?Remote? virtual directory,
b. Go to the ASP.NET tab, please check the version of the ASP.NET framework.
c. The ASP.NET tab is present if .NET Framework 2.0 or later is installed.
If there is no ASP.NET tab, .NET Framework 2.0 should not be installed.
d. If the current value is 2.0.50727, please change it to 1.1.4322. (If the
current value is 1.1.4322, please change it to 2.0.50727.)

5. Run iisreset to restart the IIS service.

Step 3 : Reinstall RWW
===============
1. Open Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.
2. Click Change/Remove for Windows Small Business Server 2003 in Add or
Remove Programs:
3. Click "Windows Small Business Server 2003" and click on "Change/Remove".
4. Follow the setup prompts until you reach the "Component Selection"
dialog screen.
5. Set the "Server Tools" to "Reinstall", and set all its subcomponents to
"None (Installed)".
6. Complete the setup wizard. You'll be prompted for CD3, point it to the
extracted SP1 cd3 folder.
7. Then you have to reinstall SBS SP1 on the problematic SBS Server.

Note: We may run CEICW wizard to enable the RWW feature on the SBS after
the reinstallation.

If this issue continues, please help me collect the following files for the
further research:

1. MPS Report
----------------------
a. Please download the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE from the following link and
then run this tool to gather some information from the problematic computer:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE

b. Double-click on the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE file. [Note] This process may
take some time; however, it will not have a negative effect on the
performance.
c. A CAB file will be generated in the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab directory
called%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports
generated by the MPS Reporting Tool.

You can zip these log files and send them as attachments to my mailbox
v-shshao@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the post ID: 41161810

2. Please also gather the IIS log.
----------------------
a. On Exchange Serves, open IIS MMC, right click Default Web Site and then
click Properties.
b. Click Website tab and then check Enable logging.
c. Stop the Default Website and RENAME the existing IIS log files under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1.
d. Restart the Default Website and reproduce the problem, which will
generate new IIS log file with the exact error.
e. Go to the following folder on Exchange Server:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1.
f. Gather the log files

Compress all the files I request, then send to v-shshao@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with
the post ID: 41161810

If anything is unclear, please feel free to post back.

Best regards,

Shawn Shao
