Re: SBS2K3-LAN NIC Upgrade Questions

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I'd just leave it be until some time after you get the switch over done, and have everything working. If you're phsyically removing the NIC from the box later, you can uninstall it from devman and I believe you have the choice of removing the drivers, or not. But the drivers won't hurt you.

If you remove the NIC physically, without uninstalling it from DEVMAN, you likely end up with 'ghost' nics - installed in the OS but not present, but that can be addressed later.

The thing you want to avoid is having two enabled NICs in the box with the same settings. But you're given a warning about this - you just have to acknowledge it.

Thanks again Les.
That's clever.

Can the old NIC be deleted after Loopback CEICW before shutdown?
(It's a one-of-a-kind on that server and I don't know if I'd ever get
rid of its drivers otherwise.)

Again, thanks.

Manually, there aren't that many.

IP address
Subnet
Default Gateway (blank in a two nic box)
DNS server (itself)
Wins (itself)

Check the tick boxes (or make/print screen shots) so you get it all the
same.
