Re: Regarding Problem with Remote Web Work Place

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi George,

Thanks for your reply.

Since when you visit RWW by typing the following URLs

http://servername/remote
http://IP_externalNIC/remote
http://IP_internalNIC/remote

the visits are successfully, it proves the SBS server functions properly.

As the http://myinternetipaddress/ brings the you to the ADSL
configuration, the problem is caused by the ADSL management function is
conflict with the port forwarding. It seems 80 port is actually not
forwarded to SBS server. Since this is third party product, please contact
your hardware vendor on how to forward all incoming http or https traffic
to external NIC of SBS. Thanks for your understanding.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

<From your description, I know that you can visit RWW if you input the URL
<https://myipaddress/remote. if that's not right, please don't hesitate to
<let me know
<
<
<
<Nope , If your meaning that https://myinternetipaddress/remote . I can
only
<access it if i am using https://machinename/remote or
<https://myserverboxipaddress/remote , from the server machine or any
client
<machines . if i try https://myinternetipaddress/remote from my local
server
<or from the internet , I get the error . This page cannot be displayed. .
<However if i type http://myinternetipaddress/ i get connected to the home
<page of my ADSL router from the internet.
<
<
<
<Please let me know the following information to make your situation more
<clearly:
<
<1. Where did you visit https://computer/remote , do you refer to the url
<https://servername/remote?
<
<
<
<Sorry i am not very clear with that question.
<
<
<
<2. What's the network topology of your SBS network?
<
<
<
<the cables are all cat6 cable connected to fast ethernet switch .
<
<
<
<3. Did you configure the Router to forward to all incoming HTTP and HTTPS
<traffic to SBS server's external NIC?
<
<
<
<the ADSL modem supplied by my ISP is UTStarcom WA3002-g1 . I am not sure
of
<the settings of this device. I would mind you to have a look at it , you
can
<see the modem settings from internet , The address is
<http://kvcklm.dyndns.org . I can send you the user name and password if
you
<need to access it
<
<
<
<4. When you ping the server name, can you get the IP address which you
<input in the URL: https://myipaddress/remote?
<
<
<
<I think you are asking me whether I can only access it if i am using
<https://machinename/remote or https://myserverboxipaddress/remote . if so
<yes
<
<
<
<Based on my experience, I'd like to give you the following suggestions:
<
<Note: I assume your network topology and the IP address are as the
<following:
<
<{Internet}---{Router}----{SBS Server}----{Client Workstation}
<
<SBS External NIC IP: 192.168.0.2
<
<SBS Internal NIC IP: 10.0.0.2
<
<
<
<ISP Supplied IP Address to ADSL router - 192.168.1.1
<
<LAn IP Address of Server is - 192.168.0.50
<
<Step 1: Please rerun the CEICW wizard to configure the network and IIS
<settings:
<
<1. On the SBS 2003 Server open the Server Management console. Go to
<Standard Management\To Do List.
<
<2. Click the "Connect to the Internet" link.
<
<3. Choose not to change the connection type and click Next. On the Firewall
<page, select "Enable firewall" and click Next (I suppose you have 2 network
<adapters in SBS 2003 and if you only have 1 network adapter you will not
<see the page and you can go to step 6).
<
<4. On the "Services Configuration" page, select all the items and then
<click Next.
<
<5. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, ensure "Remote Web Workplace"
<items is selected. Click Next.
<
<6. On the "Web Server Certificate" page, choose to create a new Web server
<certificate and then type the public FQDN that you will use to access OWA
<(for example, if your public FQDN that you use to access the sites is
<mail.domain.com, you should type mail.domain.com as the new certificate
<name). If you already requested a certificate with the name
<"mail.domain.com" from a third party CA, you can choose "Use a Web server
<certificate from a trusted authority" and then import the certificate.
<
<
<
<I have created a account with dyndns . the Complete FQDN address is
<kvcklm.dyndns.org . this is what i have given in the webserver certificate.
<
<
<
<7. Go through the remaining steps.
