In addition to the other comments, I think one of your more revealing
points in the original post is:
A router reboot will restore the network until the
next fault condition.
I'm not familiar with the Billion 7404VGP-M but, based on a VERY quick
Internet search it appears to be closer to consumer-grade than to
commercial-grade. I've actually had good luck with consumer-grade
wireless routers in specific circumstances, but in this case a key piece
of information is missing: How many computers are connecting wirelessly
to this device?
The reason I ask is because wireless access points - and their brethren,
wireless routers, modem/routers, etc. - always have a maximum number of
associated clients they will service. The real-world number is usually
lower than the "spec" number. For consumer-grade devices, 8 to 16 is a
reasonable expectation.
In addition, as Les points out, many inexpensive wireless routers won't
handle heavy-traffic or other situations where they are "strained" and
that may be reflected in your having to reboot the router periodically.
Finally, keep in mind that wireless is a shared-medium: every client is
competing for the 54Mbps or whatever your router supports. A wireless
access point is basically equivalent to a wired hub rather than a
switch.
