RE: My Docs not redirecton on single workstation

Thank you for quick response and systematic troubleshooting steps.
I fixed the problem before I had a chance to try your steps. I changed the
registry string value that set the location of My Documents:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders
The Personal value was incorrectly set to the local computer. I changed it
back to the share on the server, \\SBS\Users\Mark\My Documents, and now all
is good.
Thanks again. Sorry for the delay. This was my first post for help and had
forgotten about it. I'll be sure to check the "Notify me of replies" option
next time.

Hello Jason,.
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that My Documents Redirection
does not work on a single workstation. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
I. Based on my experience, please check if the user has manually changed
My Documents' location (To do so, right-click My Documents and select
Properties, click the Target tab, click Move to change the folder
location). If so, please change it back, and then try again.
II. By default, a GPO affects all users and computers contained in the
linked site, domain, or OU. However, you can use Security Filtering on a
GPO to modify its effect to apply only to a specific user or the members of
a security group by modifying the permissions on the GPO. So that, please
check if the specific user is blocked to apply this GPO. Refer to the
following article for more details:
Using Security Filtering to Apply GPOs to Selected Groups
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/DepKi
t/2618ebdf-e04d-4abe-bdeb-c7d893ee3c62.mspx
III. If it is not the case, please try to log on to another workstation
as the "problematic" user, does the issue occur? This issue may occur if
the problematic user's profile is corrupted, please refer to the following
KB articles to re-create the user's profile, and then try again.
How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=811151
How To Restore a User Profile in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324734/
IV. If you move the OU of the problematic user account in ADUC, the account
may do not apply the My Documents Redirection GPO properly. Please ensure
the user account in the same OU with other good users in the ADUC. Please
logon a good user account to the problematic workstation, does the issue
occur?
V. Do you install any antivirus software on the workstation (for example:
Norton Internet Security)? If yes, it may block the network traffic. Please
do clean boot on this workstation to narrow down this issue:
To clean boot the problematic computer, please use the steps below:
a. Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks). Click OK.
b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select
the Selective Startup button.
c. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below
Selective Startup.
d. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services"
box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft
Services.
e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.
f. After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur.
g. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.
VI. Please disjoin and rejoin the workstation to SBS domain to see if it
help:
a. Disjoin domain: Right click My Computer->Properties->Computer Name
tab->Change button->Select Workgroup->click OK twice and reboot it.
b. Create user account and computer account thru the Add User Wizard:
SBS->Server Management console->Users->Add a User
c. Rejoin domain thru connectcomputer wizard on client: On the Vista
client, access http://SBSname/connectcomputer/. Finish the wizard.
d. Test this issue.
If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Please run command "gpresult -v > c:\gpresult.txt" on the workstation
and send the file c:\gpresult.txt to me
2. Gather MPS network report on SBS:
a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe.
c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| I used the "Configure My Documents Redirection" to successfully set up

workaround I
| have set up a shortcut to their folder on the Server (i.e. the My Docs in

|
| I have 1) re-run the redirection wizard and 2) disabed and re-enabed
