Re: Two nic setup right / How do see if it is secure

When I go to http://10.57.201.1 I get a page cannot be displayed.
I cannot ping the ip either but I can ping the external nic.
If I change the laptop to have a ip in th 10.57.201.xxx range I can then see
the adsl
Why would changing the ip of the dsl and the external nic to 192.168.xx.yy
or 172.168.xx.yy make a differnece.
Thanks

What error or message do you get if you use IE to go to:

http://10.57.201.1

and is there any chance that it should be:

https://

Or, perhaps this is a model that only has a serial interface?

If it still gives you problems, RTM,

Then, I would connect it to a workstation that is not a member of the
domain, say your personal notebook, and do a hard reset to restore factory
defaults. Once that was done, you should get DHCP from the device and be
able to connect to what ever interface it offers.

Having gone that far, I would take if off the 10.x network and put it, and
the external nic of the SBS in a 192.168.xx.yy or 172.168.xx.yy
network, where xx is not 01 or 100.

HI Larry

Thats escatly how it is. Internet works but when I try to http to the
router
it does not work. Any ideas, I ran IE setup again

Hi Toxic:

The router should be in the same network as the external nic.

That is, if the nic is: 10.57.201.100 / 255.255.255.0
The router should be: 10.57.201.1 / 255.255.255.0

Thanks a mill
Now that I have changed the subnet to 255.255.255.0 I cannot connect to
the
adsl 10.57.201.1, but I can go out to the internet.

The WAN NIC can either be connected to the ADSL direct or the same

OK last one should the second nic be connected directly to the adsl
or
can
it
be connected to the switch and the adsl to the switch.

"Claus" wrote:

This will not work because your internal and external nic are in
the
same
subnet.
Given that you are running SBS it is very unlikely that you need to
support
a network that needs over 1000 IP addresses. Change you subnet mask
to
255.255.255.0 on both nics and you will be fine.
