Re: No RPC Server service visibible services - endpoint mapper err

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Larry,

Thanks for your response. There are no errors in the event log on the
server relating to the RPC service. I have scoured the registry looking for
a service using c:\windows\system32\rpcss and can't find one. The only
references to rpcss are for dependencies. The service is no where to be
found.

I see these two messages from the article you referenced.

There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. when I try
to join a workstation to this domain. and I see:

The name could not be resolved. The name could not be matched to a name in
the address list.

Thanks,

Russ

If there are relevant errors in your event logs, a list of the event ids and
source could be helpful.

I have an SBS 2003 SP2 that I'm troubleshooting endpoint mapper errors on
when trying to join the domain and also trying to connect Outlook clients.

I've never seen this before. The RPC Server service is not visibile in
the
list of services nor can you find the registry key for it under
currentcontrolset (or any other control set). I reimported the registry
key
from a known good system and it imports succesfully. I tried reinstalling
the service using start /w helpsvc... That seems to complete succesfully.
When I try to start the service, it says it is already started. When I
try
to stop it, it says I can't do that. Yet it is completely hidden!

I started looking into this because some Outlook clients can't connect and
I
can't join the domain because of no endpoint mapper is available. I can
telnet the server on port 135 successfully and I do resolve properly using
nslookup.

Help!
