Re: emails disappearing

using OWA you can see the emails that exchange says are there is but not the
ones that have vanished ie 3500 emails 1.5 gb no he doesnt log in from a
remote pc

What do you see in OWA? That would be the way to see the mailbox without
using Outlook.

Disappearing when he's not logged on could indicate a rule. I don't think a
rule will permanently delete messages without him logging into Outlook,
though, so if it's a rule, the messages should be in Deleted Items if
they're not anywhere else.

Does the user ever log in from a remote PC, say from home? If the home
Outlook profile is configured to deliver messages to a PST, when the user
logs in from home, the messages will be removed from the server mailbox and
placed in the PST. That's probably at least worth asking about.

Exchange isn't logging any errors in the event logs, right?

I have tried a new machine with only outlook on its the same fault & if i
log
on someone elses pc which works ok i still get the same fault is there any
way to check his exchange mailbox as they appear to leave here then
disappear
even when he is not logged on

This is generally one of three things: The user has configured a
filtered
view in Outlook, so the messages are there but hidden. Outlook will say
"Filter Applied" on the status bar at the lower left of the window. Or,
a
rule is moving the messages out of the Inbox (or wherever). Or, Auto
Archive is enabled, as it probably is by default. You might want to check
for an Archive PST in the Outlook folder list.

Failing all of the above, I'd start by looking at your AV configuration.

my customer runs SBS2003 sp 2 & now one person loses emails on a daily
basis
when he opens outlook 2003 it will download part of his inbox ie today
yesterday last week two months ago missing out last months or last
weeks
emails then if he is lucky they will start to appear randomly over the
next
few hours if he is not lucky they will simply dissapear from his
exchange
mailbox in the last 3 weeks he has lost 1.5gb worth of emails.

Any Ideas

Paul
