Hi,
Please close port 80 - you don't need this port open (unless you are hosting
your own website and you shouldn't).
There's no need to create CNAMES.
There's no need to change the DynDNS settings. If DynDNS works for OWA,
it'll work for RPC over HTTPS.
Have you re-run the CEICW and have you followed (to the letter) the
instructions on the RWW page detailing how to configure Outlook to use RPC ?

Hi,
There's no need to configure Exchange - whatever changes you made, reverse
them. Use the CEICW and enable Outlook over the Internet (this will configure
Exchange for you).
Have you allowed HTTPS (port 443) through your firewall to your SBS NIC ?
When you installed the certificate, did you install it in the Trusted Root
Certification Authorities' folder ? Trusted 'anything else' won't work.

Hi,
I enabled RPC over HTTP on SBS 2003 Sp1 server, and followed the
instructions to configure exchange as in here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995729.aspx
But now on the client side ,Outllok can't connect. When it starts -
comes up
with a message:
"'The connection to the Microsoft Exchange server is
unavailable.Outlook must
be online or connected to complete this action.'
'Unable to open your default email folders. The information store
could be
opened' "
I tried to connecthttps://FQDN/Remotefromthe client and i get a
security certificate
I installed the certificate in trused certificates,
even after that i am getting a security alert
"The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the
name of the site.
we use dyndns to access our server, since we do not have a static
ip,and the certificate has our server name on
it"servername.domain.local" but our web address is "abc.dyndns.org"
Is this a possible reason for outlook not connecting over http.
i have checked it internally within our LAN and it worked.but over the
internet i could not get it to work.
the server side config seems to be all set and working,
since all the diagnosis tests to check rpc over http showed positive
results.
I have checked all the below and everything is configured.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124649.aspx
o How to Verify That RPC over HTTP Support Is Installed
o How to Verify That World Wide Web Publishing Service Is
Running
o How to Verify That SSL Certificate Is Installed on RPC
Proxy Server
o How to Verify RPC Virtual Directory Configuration
o How to Verify That RPC Proxy Server Extension Is Loading
Properly
o How to Verify Client Computer Configuration
o How to Verify Exchange Server 2003 Port Configuration
could someone please clarify if there would be a problem related to
the certificate,as i have stumbled across some websties pointing that
outlook would not connect if a security alert relating to the
certificate pop's
How should i go about this issue, since we use dyndns...!
Thank You

Hi,
Thank You For your response,
"if you have your own registered domain name create a CNAME record in
DNS "
Should i be creating it locally or on the dyndns..?
since we have abc.dyndns.org that we use to connect to outlook web
interface ,now if i change that to server.abc.com will it affect
remote users connecting using the old url.
if we prefer to just continue using abc.dyndns.org instead of changing
that, how should i go about editing the certificate.
"Have you allowed HTTPS (port 443) through your firewall to your SBS
NIC ? "
Yes we have port 80 and 443 open through our firewall
one thing i noticed while running exchange locally to test rpc,i used
netstat -ab to check which ports the process is using, looks like its
not showing up 443 rather i see that its using 1026 and 1172 .
"When you installed the certificate, did you install it in the Trusted
Root
Certification Authorities' folder ? Trusted 'anything else' won't
work. "
I installed the certificate in the Trusted root and it is not showing
up any problem with that, there is a green check mark next to it in the
alert, the problem is with this ""The name on the security certificate
is invalid or does not match the
name of the site. "- Hide quoted text -

Thank You Colin, I have re-run the CEICW and have the option enabled
for outlook to use over internet, and also followed the steps to
configure the client as in the outlook web interface guide, added the
certificate to trusted root authoritity and also made sure that port
443 is open on our router/firewall. but still i get the same message
"'The connection to the Microsoft Exchange server is
unavailable.Outlook must be online or connected to complete this
action.'
'Unable to open your default email folders. The information store
could be opened' "
what else should i look for...?
