RE: OWA 2003

Hi John,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know the besides Administrator, other users can't
logon OWA and get error message "'You could not be logged on to Outlook Web
access. ". If that's not right, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Please let me know the following to make the situation more clearly:

1. Can the issue be reproduced when you logon OWA on SBS server or
internally with domain user account?
2. Do you have ISA server installed?

Based on my experience, please take the following steps to narrow down this
issue:

Step 1: The problem may be caused by the incorrect network and Exchange
settings, please rerun the CEICW wizard to configure the network correctly:

1. On the SBS 2003 Server open the Server Management console. Go to
Standard Management\To Do List.
2. Click the "Connect to the Internet" link.
3. Choose not to change the connection type and click Next. On the Firewall
page, select "Enable firewall" and click Next.
4. On the "Services Configuration" page, select items you need to access
from external and then click Next.
5. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, make sure "Outlook Web Access"
items are selected. Click Next.
6. Go through the remaining steps.

Step 2: The issue occurs when the OWA related virtual directories are not
correctly configured, please have the following check:

1. Open IIS Manager. Go to Server Name\Default Web Site\Exchange.
2. Right click Exchange and open properties.
3. Select Directory Security tab
4. Select Edit in Authentication and access control box, enable Basic
authentication and disable other authentication methods.
5. Ensure Default domain is \ and Realm is blank.
6. Click OK.

In addition, for the ExchWeb virtual directory, the only authentication
method is anonymous access, please have a check as the same steps.

If the problem persists, please help me collect the following information
for deep research:

1. What important change did you make before the issue first occurred?
2. The screen shot of the error message when you logon OWA from external?

3. Gather IIS log:

1) Open IIS snap-in.
2) Right click Default Web Site and click Properties.
3) Uncheck the "Enable Logging" box and click Apply.
4) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder and move all files to
a backup location.
5) Check "Enable Logging" box and click OK.
6) Run IISReset command.
7) Reproduce the problem and send the log file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder to me for research.

4. Gather IIS Metabase:

1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en
2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
5) Send the file and the password to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:
41079239-OWA 2003.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
