Re: Fail to restart server remotely

It was a coincident. I did a console session because I had some other stuff
to do on the box. When I went on site a message box was up. I don't remember
the exact message (mainly because I was p*** that I had to go on site with
lots of other appointments lined up). Later on I did check the event logs
and couldn't find anything. I did have one of my guys call TM and asked them
if they had any knowledge of this. I'm sure you can guess the answer he got.
Beside Exchange I'm now shutting down TM as well before a reboot at least
for the clients that are further away and don't have anybody on staff that
can reboot the server.

We are using TM also almost on all our clients but I haven't seen this issue
too often.

That's an interesting observation regarding Trend - I use Trend everywhere
and have this issue everywhere. How did you determine that a Trend service
didn't shut down? I've seen absolutely nothing in the event logs to
indicate what the issue is. I see a couple of USER32 events indicating a
shutdown has been started, but no shutdown and no errors.

Yup, I come across it a few times. Actually just last week on the updates
one server did that to me.

As I found out later, a program didn't shut down (if I remember correctly
it was TrendMicro). I reissued the command at the console and it shut
down fine. I couldn't reproduce it either.

Is anyone seeing an issue where you apply updates remotely that require
a server restart, and when you click either 'restart now' or 'start |
shutdown | restart ... your RDP session ends, you can't re-connect via
RDP, and on investigation, the server actually never restarted?
