Re: Strange backup exec behavior

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I installed Symantec Backup Exec 11D to evaluate on my SBS box (not
yet in production) and I'm seeing some strange behavior with the login
account it's using.

On installation you have to give it an account to use for access to
the system. I gave it the administrator account and on one of the
attempts to install it would not accept the ID and password saying
that the credentials were not correct. I believe I then gave it the
other user ID that I had created on the server and the install
progressed. After the installed I had problems with user priv's and
the job would not run. I then switced (in backup exec) the user back
to use the administrator account and this time it accepted the
credentials. Backup exec has a screen where you can "test" the
account before submitting a job and on the first item of the test it
would fail saying the rights weren't good (sorry so vauge, but I'm not
in front of the machine now), but by using the "change" button and
reselecting the same user (administrator) and re-running the test it
would pass the test and the job would run just fine.

Any idea what could be causing this problem? I uninstalled and re-
installed backup exec a 2nd time to see if would clear the problem but
it's still there. On this install it accepted the "administrator"
account credentials so I thought my problem was solved.

I like what BE can do and will use it if I can a stable build working.

Will call Symantec support if I have to, but thought I'd check here
first since this seems to be one of the best places for real world
experience.

Not sure; I've never seen this. I would check with Symantec.

Just don't do brick-level backups in Exchange - back up the info stores.
That's all you need. Brick-level is not recommended.
