Ah, no. I'm happy to be wrong about things periodically. It merely makes my
general brilliance stand out more. ;-)

the sbs doc on wm5 says root of the device
I had a Sprint 6700 and had to put at the root
I have a HTC Mogul (6800) now and it had to go at the root.

You may well be right. I could've sworn I'd had my cert working
properly at
the root on my own HTC Universal, at one point, but I've recently
reflashed
it with WM6 and seem to have put the cert in \windows. So I can't
check :-)

Only correction is that the cert file needs to be at the root of the
device...not the windows directory on the device
Once copied to the device, use file explorer on the device to locate
the .cer file and tap it to install it.

Hmm - sure about that?

I'm pretty sure on my HTC I've got it in my \windows subdirectory. I
thought
only Verizon cared where you put it (and it had to be in \storage,
with
their addcert tool)

We run SBS R2 with Vista desktops. I'm trying to connect a Windows
mobile device (HTC Touch) but can not get Exchange to sync. Have
set up https://mail2.domain/remote. Used full username -
domain/username, port 443 open, mobile user activated, push
activated however can't get this to work.....I understand the
mobile device needs a signed certificate - I exported one across to
the root area and through this would solve the prob. Alas no luck.
Could anyone tell me if I need a personal certificate - and if so
how do I exprt one of these as the export option is greyed out for
personal certs. If I am going down totally wrong route any other
advice grately received.

Thanks

Open OWA using IE on your server or LAN-connected computer
Double click on the "lock"
In the certificate properties, click Details
Click Copy to File...and click Next
In the file format, choose DER encoded binary x.590 (.cer)
Save it somewhere safe & accessible on your network, naming it
something
logical

On your handheld, connect it using Activesync (even if you don't
want to set
up a partnership) and copy the .cer file to \windows

On the device, tap/launch the .cer file and accept the
prompt/warning

.
