Hi Tom:
If the current system is still active, and if you have an empty slot of the
correct type, put the new controller in and let windows recognize it. Feed
it the drivers and the card will now be a known controller.
If possible, image the entire thing with the new drivers. Then switch out
the drives and restore the image. Acronnis or Shadow Protect will do
nicely.
If not able to image, backup, switch out the drives, install the Windows
portion of SBS, using F6 to install the new drivers, then install all
intervening Windows Service Packs so the new system is at the same service
pack as the old, and restore from backup.
If you cannot get the card installed before making the backup, then you
could use one of the Hardware Independent Restore versions of imaging
software that allows you to feed drivers while doing the restore.

Hi,
I've got a critical problem on a sbs2k3 server: Windows logbook shows alot
of aarich HD errors and already needed to repair the exchange mailbox
store
twice. Therefor I want to replace the disks, but since the controller only
supports SATA disks and I want to replace them with SAS disks I need to
install a new controller aswell. Has anyone every had experience with
this?
How I should do it...
1. Create a full backup using ntbackup
2. Installing a new controller & 4 new SAS disks with RAID5 + HS
3. Installing sbs2k3 & all updates
4. Performing a full recover using ntbackup I created in step 1
Advice very appreciated... :)
