Hopefully this is "practice environment" using a pc rather than a server because there is no reason to have high resolution video on a server

I took your advise and went looking in the BIOS. I had looked
originally and inadvertantly diabled the video controller alltogether
resulting in my having to clear my cmos (blank screen) and re-
establish my BIOS settings. This time I found a setting that
prevented re-mapping of memory above the system memory. I gave that a
shot and upon reboot with the 4GB my video resolution stayed at it's
original setting.
Problem Solved.
