RE: Outlook 2003 Attachments while connected to Windows 2003 SBS Serve

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand that if you open the attachment directly from
an email, the file is opened in Read-Only status.

Actually it is not related to Exchange 2003. It is a by-default behavior in
Outlook 2003. And we cannot change it.

It is designed to protect the file from being modified accidently.

We recommend saving the file first and then edit it.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Manfred Zhuang(MSFT)

| I have recently upgraded my infrastructure from Windows 2000 SBS to
Windows
| 2003 SBS. I have also upgraded to Office 2003 Standard, on a Windows
2000
| PC.
|
| My Outlook is connected to the Exchange 2003 Server/Mailbox. After
| upgrading to Outlook 2003, I can not edit and save attachments in
Outlook.
| When I open the attachment, it display "Read-Only" on the title bar.
Prior
| to the upgrades I was able to open an Email attachment, say an Excel
| Spread***, make changes and then save it back to the email. I no
longer
| have this ability. I have ensured that it is not a document security

|
| Any help would be appreciated.
