Re: Serious Issue on SBS 2003 - I need Help PLEASE

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Claus,

I just restarted the server and all the errors that I reported earlier are the same ones.
I noticed the send/receive error when I tried to telnet to the mail server.

The SQL Server started on 11/8/2007 from 8:05 AM until 8:12 AM. The SQL Server
error contains 148 failure audits between those times.

Thanks,
Ron

When did this start? When did you notice that you couldn't send/receive mail? Have you rebooted the server and examined the event logs?

Even though users Microsoft Outllok client shows as connected, they are not reciving any
emails and I just tested and I am unable to to telnet into our exchange server via an external
location. Also just found out that users are not able to access http://companuweb. Also I am
unable to get to Windows Updates site.

Nothing new has been installed on the domain controller or the file server.

Any Suggestions ?

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Group,

I have a problem here and with it being so strange I really don't know how to explain,
but I will do my best.

It all started yesterday when I logged into the server to install Systems Center Essentials.
I noticed that my network LAN connection was not in the bottom right of my screen, so
I went to take a look and was unable to find either the LAN or Static IP network icons.

The strange this is that everything appears to be working just fine. All user can login,
VPN is working, Sharepoint is working. Then I start looking at my Exchange Server
and it shows that the virtual SMTP service or the SMTP service was not started.
Once again all services seems to be running fine.

Then I look in the event viewer and I showing tons of red alerts from Sharepoint, MSExchangeSA,
MSExchangeMU, tons of Userenv, MSQLSERVER failure audits from one IP address of 60.213.188.163.

I then look in the services and can see many services that should be sshowing as started, but they are not like
IIS Admin, Web Publishing, COM+, Exchange Routing Engine, SMTP, Windows Installer and some others.

There was no previous warning of any impending problems and I have not seen any serious activity on
our SonicWall logs. I have scanned the server for any spyware or virus threats and found nothing at all.

Has anyone heard of such a thing? Any help would be much appericated.

Thanks,
Ron
