Re: IIS issues? OWA?

Thanks! Here are your answers to the questions

1) OWA and company web do stop at the same time
2) http://companyweb or mail.mycompany.com --> companyweb is internal
only where mail is internal and external
3) RWW will not work
4) I do not know will have to check

It did it again this morning, luckly early enough before people came
in that i could reboot the server. I will continue through the steps
you mentioned.

Thanks
Ross

Hi Rossk,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that your OWA and Companyweb stop working. If
you restart server, they work again. If that's not right, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Before we go further on this issue, please let me know the following
information to make the situation more clearly?

1. Do the OWA and Companyweb stop working at the same time?
2. Where do you visit OWA and Companyweb? On the SBS server, can you visit
successfully?
3. When the problem occurs, do the other sites such as RWW work OK?
4. Do you have ISA installed?
5. When you open IIS, can you see the Default Web Site and Compnayweb
stopped?

Based on my experience, I'd like to give you the following suggestion:

Step 1: Some third party software can prevent the IIS work properly. Please
make a clean boot to make sure the problem is not caused third party
software:

1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
4. Click OK and choose Restart.
5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.

Step 2: The problem may be caused by IIS setting. Please rerun the CEICW,
this helps us to configure network and IIS properly:

1. Click Start, click Server Management. Click To Do List and then click
"Connect to the Internet". Click Next, and go through the Internet option.
2. Select Enable firewall and click Next.
3. On the Web Services Configuration page shows, select the websites you
need to visit from Internet.
4. On the Web Server Certificate page shows. Select "Create a new Web
server certificate", and type your FQDN (mail.domain.com) in the "Web
server name" text box. Click Next.

IMPORTANT: The FQDN that you type in the "Web server name" box must be the
same name that you use to connect to the Web site from the Internet. For
example, if the URL that you use to connect to the RWW ishttps://server.contoso.com/remote, type "server.contoso.com" (without the
quotation marks) in the "Web server name" box. If you usehttp://ipaddress/remoteto access RWW, type the public IP address in the
"Web server name".

5. Go through the steps to finish the wizard.

If the problem persists, please help me collect the following information
for deep research:

1. What important change did you make before the issue first occurred?

2. What's the error message can you see when fail to visit Companyweb and
OWA?

3. Gather IIS log:

1) Open IIS snap-in.
2) Right click Default Web Site and click Properties.
3) Uncheck the "Enable Logging" box and click Apply.
4) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder and move all files to
a backup location.
5) Check "Enable Logging" box and click OK.
6) Run IISReset command.
7) Reproduce the problem and send the log file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 folder to me for research.

4. Gather IIS Metabase:

1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71...
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en
2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
5) Send the file and the password to me.

5. MPS Report

1) Download MPS report tool from:http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-...
15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
2) Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box.
3) Wait for 10~15 minutes.
4) Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab\
5) Send the .cab file to v-rob...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject: 40928493-IIS
issues? OWA.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
