Re: How do I reinstall setup.exe file for clients in server?

Hi Cris,

please read the previous reply first. Because of this something new has
come to my attention that might be a reason for all the problems. After
running the change/remove wizard in add/remove programs for sbs 2003 and
canceling it before it reinstalled components such as AD and IIS Services, I
made some configuration changes in DHCP that requested me to reboot the
server to take effect.

I rebooted the server and afterwards I looked at the event log for specific
errors or warnings and found several Perflib application errors that stated
the application was not aligned on an 8-byte boundary. An example of these
warnings is:

Event Type: Warning

Event Source: Perflib

Event Category: None

Event ID: 1016

Date: 07/11/2007

Time: 01:21:28 p.m.

User: N/A

Computer: SRVNAME

Description:

The data buffer created for the "PerfDistServer" service in the "C:\Program
Files\Panda Software\Panda Administrator 3\Distribution Server\DSPerfmon.dll"
library is not aligned on an 8-byte boundary. This may cause problems for
applications that are trying to read the performance data buffer. Contact the
manufacturer of this library or service to have this problem corrected or to
get a newer version of this library.

Does this not mean that they are not compatible with 64-bit? This is
interesting because our sbs 2003 installation is supposed to be 32-bit! They
told me the processor supports 32-bit. I looked at the installation CDs and
found that there are 6 installation CDs. 2 pairs of CDs are labeled CD 1 and
CD 2 and 1 pair is labeled CD3 and 4. There are three more single CDs for
Outlook, Frontpage and R2 technologies. I remember asking them about the two
CD1 and CD2 and they said one is for 32 and other for 64 bit installation.
But why are both packages open? Do they need to open them and look at
content to tell which is which? I looked at the labels on the CD and could
not tell which is for 32 and which for 64 bit installation. Is it even
possible to install 64bit OS on a 32bit processor and have it work (although
with many problems)?

If this is the case that they installed 64-bit instead of 32-bit, do we have
to reinstall the whole OS for the server? Or can we uninstall the sbs 2003
and sp2 and then install the 32 bit sbs 2003 without having to reinstall ISA
server and Exchange Server for example?

I was not sure whether I should post this separately as it seemed it is part
of the same problem. This might explain why we constantly find missing files
for a lot of applications.

Your help is so very much needed and appreciated,

Ikis

Hi Cris,

I am sorry to bother you again, but previous installations and
uninstallations have caused problems so I am hesitant to do this with with
such an important key software. We have been using the sbs 2003 PE R2
installation for 10 weeks now, and all configurations have been made. We
have had several problems with clients logging in (and sometimes joining them
to the domain on new PCs) and I thought that this client/setup/setup.exe
missing might have s.th. to do with the problems.

I ran the SBS setup from add/remove programs, and it asks me for the product
key again, and then it tells me it will reinstall components such as AD, IIS
Services and other components and tells me this will take some 30 minutes. I
am afraid to clic next as I don't want it to reinstall all this on an already
installed and configured AD and IIS Services. Can you tell me if
reinstalling all these components will erase all my previous configurations?
And where in the wizard will there be the option just to install the Client
tools again? Also, now it placed a Continue Client Setup shortcut on the
desktop and the wizard information said that if I don't finish the setup
wizard in 7 days, that the server license will expire and the server will
then turn off.

Thank you for your help and excuse my hesitation, but I cannot make a
mistake here and render the whole company out of network access. It is a bit
scary.

Hi,

I could not find SBSsetup in Add Remove Programs. Should it appear
exactly
as "SBSsetup"? Do you know another way to reinstall client tools? There
are
other client tools under the directory C:/ClientApps/wxpsp2; this folder
contains several setup.exe files and a netsetup.exe file.

Is it possible the script in the sbs logon script which I am assuming was
default in the server installation is wrong?

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Ikis

Hi,

I have been getting event error UserInit # 1000 on all my client
computers.
They are executing the SBS Users logon script bat file at startup, but
the
script asks to execute \\servername\Clients\Setup\setup.exe and the
clients
can't do this because they cannot find this setup.exe file; in fact, the
whole directory \Clients\Setup is missing from the server. Use sbs 2003
Premium Edition R2.

Can you please tell me how to get this setup.exe file again and whether
there are other files missing that should have been under this directory
as
well? Can I just create this directory again as any other?

Thanks in advance for help with this issue,

Ikis
