Re: OK to apply SBS2003 SP1 after already applying WS2003SP2?

Since Windows 2003 SP2 has it's own issues, I think I'd still prefer to
install Windows 2003 SP1, make sure the SBS server is up to snuff in all
respects and then apply Windows 2003 SP2. A little more time involved, but
at least you can uninstall Windows 2003 SP2 later if things go pear-shaped
with the upgrade to it. If you apply Win2003 SP2 from the outset, then SBS
2003 SP1 and then have problems, I suspect the recovery may be more complex.
And you may even want to skip Windows 2003 SP2 altogether at this point.

There are five parts to that SBS service pack.
Instead of Win2k3 sp1, just substitute Win2k3 sp2
Instead of Exchange sp1, install Exchange sp2
and so on for the rest..
R2 just goes over the top with the r2 disk. There is no inplace needed.

Thanks! I will do a full ASR backup first. then run sbs sp1, run the sba

I have the non SBS R2 installed, but I do have media for SBS R2. May I
in-place-upgrade to T2 and accomplish an update of SBS? Which disc would
I start with?
I didn't see upgrade instructions at that link, but perhaps you meant
somewhere at the site. I'm sure I can find a kb article too. I'm not
sure what is meant by I can substitute Windows Server 2003 SP 2, Windows
Sharepoint Services 2.0 SP 2, and Exchange Server 2003 SP 2 for Windows
Server 2003 SP 1, Windows Sharepoint Services 2.0 SP 1, and Exchange
Server 2003 SP 1 respectively...
substitue instances I read? meaning the older versions listed are in
retirement? Unclear to me.

The SBS 2003 SP 1 download and installation instructions are located
here. You can substitute Windows Server 2003 SP 2, Windows Sharepoint
Services 2.0 SP 2, and Exchange Server 2003 SP 2 for Windows Server 2003
SP 1, Windows Sharepoint Services 2.0 SP 1, and Exchange Server 2003 SP
1 respectively
Check using the SBS BPA again after installing SBS 2003 SP1 to see if
the ASP.Net versions of the /remote, /backup etc have changed to v2.0.
If so, then per the SBS BPA you will need to change those back to
v1.1.4322. Be sure to also check the version on companyweb as well. If
you have to change companyweb to use ASP.Net
v1.1.4322 then you will also need to follow the steps in the More
Information section of the following kb.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894903/en-us
stsadm -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url http://companyweb
Of course, before installing any updates it's always a good idea to have
a complete backup first.

I recently became aware of the SBS best practices analyzer. It
recommends I
upgrade to SBS SP1 (though I thought I did a long time ago). I've
already
applied WS2003 SP2. If I run the SBS SP1 update, will I hork something
up?
TIA
.
