RE: SBS2003R2 premium and UpdateServices WSUSv3 - Application Erro

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Trevor,

Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry for not mentioning the possible problem.

Since you have modified the default Windows SBS R2 Update Services settings
by using the native WSUS 3.0 management tool, Update services console in
Server Management won't work.

We need to reverse the changes back and then install WSUS3.

| Hi,
| Well I thought I'd check this out on my own server first (have seen the
| application error a couple of times there) So backed up the WSUS3 using
| ntbackup to a file.
|
| Uninstalled WSUS 3.0
| Downloaded and reinstalled W2K3 SP2
| Reinstalled WSUS 3.0
|
| Canceled out of the wsus3 console setup so as not to make changes and
went
| into the SBS server console. Under Update Services it says the SBS Update
| Services is not running because it automatically turns off if you
customize
| Windows Server Update Services. I am refered to a document 921910 for a
list
| of specifics all of which relate to WSUS2. I'm directed to reverse the
| changes I made or rerun the R2 Technologies CD.
|
| Your procedure did not mention having to install WSUS2 first and then
WSUS3.
| Have I missed something . . . I would like to manage updates from within
SBS
| console.
|
| Regards
| Trevor
