=====================
Hi Terence
I already had the update http://support.microsoft.com/?id=936594 installed
on my system as I had hoped that this would provide me with a fix. It
didn't help. For the sake of it I have tried to reinstall it today but the
situation is still the same.
I am only trying to access external ftp servers, I'm not planning on
runninga ftp server on this system. With my old system SBS 2003 Premium
without the ISA I was able to access ftp without any problems. It all seem
to have come about since my upgrade to R2 and the installation of ISA 2004.
I have done a lot of reading into how the ISA 2004 is working both on ms
websites and isaserver.org. It all seems fairly straight forward as soon as
you understand the network topology and the way it handles the rules. I
have also been through a lot of the webcasts relating to ISA.
1. Does this issue happen on all clients?
Yes, this is consistent on all clients. (all clients have ISA firewall
client installed and it seems to be working)
2. Can you access external FTP on SBS?
I can access the ftp servers, log on to them with my username and pw. From
a cmd window I can even list directories until it suddenly looses
connection. To me it seems as there is something wrong with the ports. FTP
normally works on port 20 and 21 and also opens ports in the higher end for
the data channel. Whether it is the client or the server that open the data
connection depends on whether it is active or passive as to my research.
Isaserver.org holds a very good description
http://www.isaserver.org/articles/How_the_FTP_protocol_Challenges_Firewall_S
ecurity.html on issues with isa server and ftp. But even after this I'm
stuck. It seems that the system looses track of the relationship between
the server/client on the higher port!
3. Run command "ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig_sbs.txt" and "route print >
c:\route_sbs.txt" on SBS, send the files c:\ipconfig_sbs.txt and
c:\route_sbs.txt to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
File is attached as requested.
Kind regards
Ronnie
