Reading through this and you subsequent posts I believe you are on the right
track. PTR and blacklist are the most likely reasons. You can check your
domain here: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx
If you can fix it, make sure your PTR matches your mailserver - or at least
you domain. Many larger mail service providers are utilizing PTR. There is
also a new project on the market called "grey list". The principle is that
the receiving mailserver will check a combination of 3 items from your email
and if it determines that it never has received email from you it will ask
your mail server to retry later. The theory behind this is that spammers do
not respond to the retry where "normal" mail servers will. If you want to
read up about this project, here is the link...

Recently we are experiencing a few emails stuck in the SMTP queue to
Sympatico.ca and I would like to enable some decent logging on the
handshaking our server does to the recipients email server.
I can telnet to sympatico's servers fine.
I am suspecting either PTR records for which ours do not match our mail
server name, or that we were recently blacklisted by spamcop (yuck!) for
apparently sending out a spam email, for which I have absolutely no record
of
(going through message tracking center). We have now got the green flag
from
them, but I am wondering if some organizations still have us as
'blacklisted'.
Cheers.
