ONE of the recent updates was to install SP2 onto the SBS server - could
this be a cause of it?

At least I got something right then!
Not sure what has changed - lots of things probably, nor can I pinpoint
when it first happened.
It is on all workstations and all users that have roaming profiles. Even
if the size of the profile is reduced to a fraction, it still seems the
same, which would mean to me it is more of a timeout etc kind of issue
rather than a size one.
Tried reducing size
Proved that removing roaming profile is lightening
Tried stopping roaming the Application Data via GP - no change.
Tried User Hive Cleanup
Checked Share and NTFS permissions on profiles share
Checked that caching is off
Ensured that Antivirus isn't checking those folders

Hi Neil:
The config looks ok. Well done.
The usual drill for problem solving is:
What has changed?
When did it start?
What changed just before it started?
One user or all users on this workstation?
One workstation or all workstations?
What steps have you tried to solve the problem
--
The Ip of the external nic is a bit unexpected. No router or firewall?
There are lots of postings regarding problems with BroadCom nics, so be
sure you have the latest drivers. Do a bit of research on this issue. I
have never had to deal with it, as I stay away from Dell, who (rampantly)
has been the biggest culprit.
After you log on, and the sync is done, does that same workstation have
any problems with a large file copy? Some things that can get in the way
are:
Over zealous AV or multiple AV scanners
Bad NW switch
Bad NW switch port
Bad patch cable
Bad in the wall wiring
Nic configured to Auto Sync... try 100 or 10/00 in the properties of the
NIC.
Nic not configured to Auto Sync
Very large Roaming Profiles or off line file/folder sets. Except for
traveling laptops most would discourage the use of off line folders, and
even with traveling systems there are more trouble free solutions, such
as second copy.

Hi Neil:
Most of these kinds of problems are caused by mis configured DNS. To
start, please post the output of the following from both the server and
a workstation.
Not necessary to change anything. Indicate which is which.
ipconfig /all > c:\myconfig.txt
open the text file and post the contents.

SBS2003 with Windows XP clients
When I use a roaming profile for a login, it takes ages to apply the
user and computer settings after login. This seems to have got worse
recently, but I can't find out what it is.
Are there any steps I can take to find out what is causing it?
The size of the profile is ok, as is normal network connectivity. On
removing the profile setting on the server it works ok, so must be
something to do with the roaming.
Help!
Neil
