Re: Mystery

Merv,

Can you explain this a bit more? What are you getting at? 2 of the NICs are
disabled and the other one has a static IP. So how would they even try to
get a DHCP address?

I wonder if this has to do with the remote management capablilities of the
NICs?

Any kind of teaming software installed on the server that might be
affecting these nics?

Hi All,

This is a new one for me. Dell 2900 with dual onboard Broadcom BCM 5708C
and
PCI dual Intel Pro/1000PT.
SBS 2003R2 Premium with 2 NIC setup.

One Broadcom is used for the LAN with static IP (second one is disabled)
and
one Intel is used for the WAN with static IP(second one is disabled).

On a reboot, the WAN connection didn't come up. Looking into the Error
logs
we see continuous DHCP errors for the active Intel NIC (WAN) and both
disabled NICs saying that the NIC card with MAC address xxx did not
receive
a valid IP from the DHCP server.

This doesn't make any sense as 2 of those cards are disabled and the third
one has a static IP. Has anybody seen this before?

Btw... another reboot fixed the issue but I still want to find out how
this
can happen so we don't have to send someone out to the customer site
because
we can't remote into the box.

TIA
