Re: Outlook on TS member server to SBS2003

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Dan,

Are you installing with the server in the correct 'mode'?

Log on as a user with administrator rights, and either use add/remove programs (if installing from CD), or from a command prompt use "change user /install" (leave the command prompt window open while installing), and then use "change user /execute" when the installation finishes.

The above method works for applications that are designed to be run in a TS environment (MS Word/Outlook should be OK). Many 3rd party applications aren't specifically designed for this, and expect admin rights. But that said, many of these apps can work with user rights, so long as specific permissions are set for the vairous file and registry sections that require it. Sometimes, you can find help with a google search on "app_name terminal server", or perhaps from the vendor's support site.

If you need to discover these settings yourself, you can use a tool that tracks changes on installation - and then use that list to modify permissions. I've used a tool called inctrl (I think that stands for "in control") but I'm not sure where to get it anymore. You might find something with google.

I'm not sure if I should post this here, on Outlook's newsgroup or Terminal Server newsgroup, so I'll start here.

I have an SBS2003R2 with a member server running TS (Server2003). What is the proper way to install Outlook 2003 on the TS for the TS users? The TS is running Office2000 and Act 2000.

Does anyone have any advise on getting Act2000 and Word2000 to play nice together WITHOUT giving everyone admin rights? Got a couple of hits on a Google search on it, but all result in dead ends and dead links. They play perfect when the users have admin rights. Tried using procmon to see what was being denied access, it didn't show ANYTHING denied for a user without admin rights so I don't get it.

Thanks in advance for any help!
