RE: Internet Connection Wizzard - Mail Delivery question

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply.

I am glad to know the informaton is helpful. I'd like to make a summary for
this post:

Q: When I run the CEICW to configure e-mail, you can see two options, "Use
DNS to route e-mail" and "Forward all e-mail to e-mail server at your ISP".
Which is the better option?

A: Generally speaking, when you don't have Static IP address, A and PTR
record for your domain, you can choose smart host to route your e-mail. The
sent e-mails are controlled by the smart host and you can use less time to
maintain the Exchange server.

If you have Static IP address, A, PTR, MX record, you can use DNS to route
e-mail. It's more safer than smart host.

Q: When I use smart host to route e-mail, the recipient will see the smart
host infromaton in Internet header, will this cause negative effect?

A: If you route e-mails to smart host, you will see the smart host
information in Internet Header, this is expected behave. The Internet
Header will recorder the servers it passes, your mail server is recorded
too. In fact, we seldom check the Internet Header. Even when using smart
host, we can find from Internet Header that e-mail is send from SBS server,
not from smart host.

I'd like to give you more information for your reference:

guideline when submitting new posts in the future. This information will
help us to understand the issue and situation more quickly. Thank you!

1. Has the server/client/product ever worked?
2. If so, what changed?
3. What service packs and updates were applied?
4. What are the steps to reproduce the problem?
5. Does it happen the same way on any other systems?
6. Please provide the exact error message with any screenshots, if possible.

If you need any assistance in the future, please feel free to post in our
newsgroup.
