Re: user migration

I tried to do it from other workstations and i get the same problem, windows
firewall (on the workstation) shouldnt cause the problem.
I am pretty lost by now.
Is there a different way to migrate a user, other than
http://server/connectcomputer?

I don't think the problem is with the server. The problem should be on the
workstation and it's very difficult to tell without having access to it.
If I had to guess I would say that some security settings might be
preventing the wizard from running. If that's not the problem I would be
looking towards the network adapter

Other than this and a few mild problems the server works perfectly. The
fact
that the file is not the, what can it mean?
Thanks anyway for your patience

That file should have been there. As I mentioned in a previous post,
something prevents the wizard from running. Unless there is a firewall
on
the client computer or the Internet Explorer settings prevent it from
running I don't know what else to think. You might want to wait a bit,
just
in case someone else jumps on the thread and if not, I would suggest to
call
Microsoft CSS

the only file in this directory is: SBSClientApps.log
I searched the file you mentioned in the server with 0 results.

I don't think the computer joined the domain at the point where it
stops.
Something is preventing the process from finishing. Try clearing the
temporary files in IE and make sure that the XP machine is fully
patched.
Then go to c:\program files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Clients
directory and edit with notepad the SBSNetSetup.txt file.

This file contains information that could possibly help. If you
can't
find
the error there, post the content of the file here and see if we can
see
anything

So i started again
1) Disabled the antivirus
2) Deleted the SBS_netsetup acount
3) Deleted the computer account on the server
4) Got out of the domain
5) Logged on locally
6) Went to http://servername/connectcomputer
7) Connected as the domain administrator without migrating a
profile

What i got is that the computer restarts as user __SBS_netsetup__
and
that's it!!!
It never finished the process.
More things that i noticed:
1) Under documents and settings there are only two account, the old
account and __SBS_setup_, thus no new account.
2) On the server by Client computers there is the new account i
made
for
the computer but under operating system nothing is written (i guess
it
means that the computer account has not yet been used
3) Thus i looked at the computer name on the workstation and it is
still
the old one

My conclusion is that although it seems that the computer has
joined
the
domain, it is not connected to the computer accout.

Any advice?

Is it XP Pro SP2?

If yes, disable antivirus software or third party firewall that
you
might
have running on the workstation and try again. If it doesn't
succeed,
try removing the computer from the domain, delete the directories
for
_SBS_netsetup_ under 'Documents and Settings' and try to add the
Administrator account without transferring the profile. If it
succeeds,
then you know that the migration problem is in the user's profile.
Remove the computer from the domain again, and try adding it
again,
this
time by migrating the profile one more time.

What
is the
client operating system you work on? Is it a laptop or desktop?

I am trying to migrate a user to a new SBS server. I started
with
http://servername/ConnectComputer with went well.
However, after restart (when being logged in as
_SBS_netsetup_)
nothing
happens. I tried to log off and log on as a user but then the
settings
have not been migrated.
Is the computer supposed to restart again itself for me to log
on
as
a
normal user or am i supposed to take any action. The situation
at
this
moment is that i am logged on as _SBS_netsetup_ and nothing
happens.
