RE: Group Policies on SBS 2k3 R2 not allowing 64-bit apps to insta

Ok, I will try to join my Vista x64 machine to the domain again and see if I
get the same results as before. I'm waiting for a new(er) computer to arrive
as the one I was using did not meet the minimum requirements for SBS 2003 R2
Premium. I goofed up and looked up the requirements for Windows Server 2003
(as I was upgrading from Windows Server 2000) and it exceeded those minimum
requirements, but I really didn't think about or I don't know what happened
that kept me from looking up the min requirements for SBS 2003 R2 Premium.

So, I got a new computer. However, I think my license is OEM... so I can't
move it to the new PC. I may have another copy of SBS, but I'm not sure. I
had a small business for a whlie and actually sold at least one system with
SBS installed on it (OEM). I'm not certain that I have any more licenses to
re-install it. I'll keep you informed.

Hello Brian,

Thank you for your reply.

Do you mean the updates I mentioned in my first reply?

If yes, please understand that they are for your second problem regarding
Windows Firewall. I don't think they will help for the software
installation problem.

I still would like to confirm what is the software? If you install it on a
Vista x64 machine that does not belong to a SBS network, what is the
result? Also, I would like to double confirm if the OS is 64-bit or it is
just a 32-bit edition that is installed on 64-bit hardware.

I appreciate your effort.

| Hello,
|
| Thanks for your help. I think I've run into a "brick wall". I've been
| messing around with SBS 2k3 and actually reinstalled it a couple of times
| (which is VERY time consuming due to the CPU speed and the fact that SBS
| Premium is all on CDs rather than DVD(s)). I never got that note about
| "Group Policies" on my Vista x64 machine, but the second time I didn't
run
| the setup.exe on the SBS server because of the issues I had afterwards.
| Should I be able to run it after installing the hotfixes? I did upgrade
to
| R2 from SP1, does that service pack include any of those hotfixes?
Should it
| be ok to run the setup program from Vista x64 after applying the
| hotfixes/service packs?
|
| Thanks,
| Brian
