Re: user migration

I don't think the computer joined the domain at the point where it stops. Something is preventing the process from finishing. Try clearing the temporary files in IE and make sure that the XP machine is fully patched. Then go to c:\program files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Clients directory and edit with notepad the SBSNetSetup.txt file.

This file contains information that could possibly help. If you can't find the error there, post the content of the file here and see if we can see anything

So i started again
1) Disabled the antivirus
2) Deleted the SBS_netsetup acount
3) Deleted the computer account on the server
4) Got out of the domain
5) Logged on locally
6) Went to http://servername/connectcomputer
7) Connected as the domain administrator without migrating a profile

What i got is that the computer restarts as user __SBS_netsetup__ and that's it!!!
It never finished the process.
More things that i noticed:
1) Under documents and settings there are only two account, the old account and __SBS_setup_, thus no new account.
2) On the server by Client computers there is the new account i made for the computer but under operating system nothing is written (i guess it means that the computer account has not yet been used
3) Thus i looked at the computer name on the workstation and it is still the old one

My conclusion is that although it seems that the computer has joined the domain, it is not connected to the computer accout.

Any advice?

Is it XP Pro SP2?

If yes, disable antivirus software or third party firewall that you might have running on the workstation and try again. If it doesn't succeed, try removing the computer from the domain, delete the directories for _SBS_netsetup_ under 'Documents and Settings' and try to add the Administrator account without transferring the profile. If it succeeds, then you know that the migration problem is in the user's profile. Remove the computer from the domain again, and try adding it again, this time by migrating the profile one more time.
