RE: SBS 2003 Backup exclude not working

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand that SBSBackup seems to back up previous
backup data.

Firstly I would like to confirm how many backups are set to be stored on
the SBS server?

Do you mean that the later backup is always twice as large as the previous
one?

I suggest you perform a manual backup to verify it:

1. Open Server Management, click Backup node.
2. Click Backup Now.
3. After the backup is finished, please check the latest backup file.

If it is twice as large as the previous backup file, I suggest you try
following steps to check if it works:

1. Open Server Management, click Backup node.
2. Click Configure Backup to reset the settings.
3. Click Start-->Run, type ntbackup and click OK.
4. Click Advanced Mode to switch to Advanced Mode
5. Click Backup tab, click Job-->Load Selections
6. Load following file:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small
Business Backup Script.bks

7. Please check if the selections are correct. If not, please modify it.
8. Click Job-->Save Selections to save the script file and then exit
NTBackup.
9. Open Server Management, click Backup node.
10. Click Backup Now and check if it works normally.

I hope the above information is helpful to you. If the problem still
occurs, please help me gather following information:

1. Test:
=====
1. Click Start-->Run, type ntbackup and click OK.
2. Switch to Advanced Mode
3. Click Backup tab, select the drives and folders you would like to back
up.
4. Click Start Backup button.

After that, please check if NTBackup only backed up the objects you
selected.

2. Please send backup Logs to v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

a. The Backupxx.log files in the folder 'C:\Documents and Settings\SBS
Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\NTBackup\data'.

Or 'C:\Documents and Settings\CurrentUserName\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data'

b. The Sbsbackuplog0x.log files which can be located under the folder
'%sbsprogramdir%\Support\Backup Logs'.

3. Please send me following file:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small
Business Backup Script.bks

4. Please open G:\backup files folder, click View-->Details. Then capture a
screenshot.

To capture the image, we can perform the steps below:

(a) When the error message appears, press the Print Screen key several
times (this key is located to the right of the F12 key on the keyboard)
(b) Open Paint ['start' => 'All Programs' => 'Accessories' => 'Paint'].
(c) Click Edit (menu) -> Paste or press Ctrl + V.
(d) Click File (menu) -> Save. Save it as a .jpg or .gif file and send it
to me as an attachment.

Best regards,

Manfred Zhuang(MSFT)
