Re: Vista Bus to SBS2003R2 connectcomputer problems . . .

Maybe the difference is ISA.

I'm running premium SBS R2, but I haven't installed ISA yet. SBS has all the latest patches installed.

My vista installs are DELL OEM PCs and ASUS OEM Notebooks. On first boot, I just choose all the default options and setup 1 local admin account.

Then http://server/connectcomputer once the machine comes up.

The only time I have run into problems with an install is when there is more than 1 NIC.

I was planning on installing ISA this weekend, but maybe I'll wait until this is sorted out.

I actually did try without the FWC installed as I thought that more closely represented the normal means to connect, got the same problem.

PMTU discovery is some means that TCP uses to set the MTU packet size (when enabled) For participating routers/firewalls/etc this provides a means to control fragmentation of TCP packets (apparently). There was some issue with ISA2004 when under load that caused high CPU usage when PMTU was disabled (this can result in effective fragmentation under load). Since my server is not likely to suffer here and my router and ISA aren't configured to participate in PMTU discovery I've disabled the feature. There is a paper on this .. .not difficult to find.

XP??? I have already proved that XP will connect (although not with this hardware). I have commited this machine to Vista now and will continue using my old XP laptop until the problem is resolved or I determine how to work around the problem manually. IE get an acurate way to connectcomputer with all the wizard features applied.

Does a manual connectcomputer whit paper exist ????

Trevor

What happens if you...just for now, uninstall the FWC on the Vista machine?

Don't know what PMTU is? Was there some reason not to do the XP build as suggested and try joining?

Hi Chris,
As promised I'm reporting back on progress with this issue.
Have conducted another bare metal Vista installation and installed the WMI provider and ISA2004 FWC for Vista. I have run the recently release SBS Best Practices Analyser and resolved a couple of reported criticals leaving 3 warnings one of which is PMTU is enabled.

The connectcomputer issue is still apparent and manifesting itself in exactly the same way as previously documented.

Do you or anyone have any input or more experience to offer to this problem???

Regards
Trev.
