Re: Help Understanding Local Logins vs Domain Logins

I hope that you are talking about the local admin group on the individual
workstation when you say that you added the users to the admin group.

As to login, users should always log into the domain and never to the local
workstation (this computer).

As to your file issue, you can implement folder redirection. I personally
would not recommend offline folders.

If the current profiles are messed up, the easiest might be to delete all
profiles and start from scratch.

I have inherited my first SBS 2003 mess and I am on my fourth or fifth
install of the server so I should be getting some of these concepts by
now.

I have 10 Windows XP users on my server:
6 users use the same workstation daily and generally refer to the
workstation as "theirs"
4 users share workstations, use laptops, etc.

Although I know that admins here are gonna scream, my users need to have
the
ability to add/remove programs on their local PCs at will.

When a workstation starts up and a user presses ctrl-alt-del to login,
they
are given the option of logging in to the local domain or their local
workstation. For at least two separate users, logging into the domain
generates errors about user rights and then creates a temporary profile.

I have all of my users in the Administrators group to give them full
rights,
but still have problems. I am assuming it has something to do with the
concurrent local user profile and the server user profile.

QUESTION: Is there an easy way to extract the user profile information
stored on a local PC but under a different domain/username so that I can
ADD
(not replace) the contents to a new user profile on the server?

QUESTION: Is there an easy way to setup a local copy of a users files to
work on so that when they log off, their files are uploaded to their
directory on the server rather than having them work directly from the
server
drive? (too many temporary Photoshop/Word temporary files)

QUESTION:What is the difference between loggin in to the local workstation
(where I have manually mapped drives, printers, etc). and logging into the
domain?

Any help/advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your support,

jase
