Re: problem with RWW

Hello Itan,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand that some users cannot access OWA through RWW.
But they can access OWA directly.

First of all, I would suggest we running the CEICW wizard to default the
network configuration of the SBS 2k3 server.

Re-running CEICW on SBS server:
=============================
Let's re-run CEICW to reset the network configuration. Please refer to
following article to do this.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

If it does not work, please prepare a clean boot environment and check the
issue:

Prepare a Clean Boot environment.
=================
1. Click Start and Click Run, and in the "Open" line, type in "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks) and click OK.
2. Under the Service tab, check "Hide All Microsoft Services", and then
click "Disable All" button. In this way, we can disable all the services
which belong to third-party programs.
3. Under the Startup tab, click "Disable All" button.

4. Click OK.
5. Choose Yes to restart the computer.
6. Check "Don't show this message or launch the system configuration
utility when Windows starts".
7. Please check if the issue persists.

NOTE: We can check on Normal Startup in the General tab to roll back to
Normal Mode after we get this issue resolved.

If the issue persists, you mentioned that all the problematic user accounts
were created by using a template. I would like to confirm that is the user
template a built-in template or a self-created template?

If it is a self-created template, I suggest you create a new user account
by using built-in User Template, can the new user access OWA through RWW?

If not, please let me know.

If yes, I suggest you add a new user template with appropriate membership
and then try to run change user permissions tool to reset the problematic
users' properties:

1. Open Server Management
2. Click Users in the left pane.
3. Click Change User Permissions in the right pane
4. Click Next.
5. Select an appropriate template, ensure Replace any permissions granted
to the users is selected. Then click Next
6. Move the problematic user account to the right.
7. Click Next, then click Finish.

If it does not help, to isolate this issue, I would like to suggest
following test and get the result information.

1. Please visit https://localhost/remote on the SBS server, access RWW by
using a problematic user account. Could this issue be reproduced? If this
issue occurs under this situation, please capture a screenshot of the error
message while the following option disabled - Internet Options -> Advanced
-> Show friendly HTTP error message. Then, please send the information to
me at v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

2. Please try to visit https://FQDN/exchange and check if OWA can be
accessed.

3. Please let me know if this issue occurs regardless the client
workstation you logon. Does it occur on both your internal client
workstation and internet access?

4. Does the issue happen for the problematic users no matter which
workstation they log on?

5. Please send me the MPS report:

a. Visit
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE. to download the file.
b. Run the MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE on the server box.
c. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

6. Please follow the steps below to enable the logging for IIS, reproduce
the problem, and then get the IIS log to me for analysis:

a. Open Internet Information Services (IIS) console <Server name>
right click 'Default Web Site' to choose 'Properties'.

b. Under the 'Web Site' tab, check the option 'Enable Logging'.

c. With 'W3C Extended Log File Format', click 'Properties'.

d. Under 'General Properties', make sure 'Use local time for file
naming and rollover' is CHECKED.

e. Switch to the 'Extended Properties', and then select to enable All
the logging Options.

f. Click OK to apply the modification.

g. By Default, the log files are created in the
'%systemroot%\system32\logfiles\W3SVC1' folder.

Note that to gather the completed log, you will need to first Stop 'Default
Web Site', copy out or zip the log, and then restart the 'Default Web Site'.

If you have any questions or concerns related to this issue, please let me
know.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
