Debian has an "Evolution" package? Do you know where I can locate the
source? Ubuntu is a "debian" derivative, isn't it? Just out of curiosity,
do you think it would have an issue compiling under Solaris x86?
I looked through the BIOS as I though WOL had to be setup in the BIOS, but I
didn't see the option. The NIC is on the motherboard (integrated), so you'd
think the WOL option would be in there somewhere. I may have to do a little
"googleing" to find the answer to that one. It's an ASUS A8V Deluxe v.2.0
M/B FYI. If you know what the option is, by all means let me know.
Otherwise I'll have to do a search for it online.
Thanks,
Brian

What, if any, is the best setup for my Linux box to the SBS 2k3 computer?
There is a mail program called "Evolution" for Linux that supposedly can
connect to an Exchange server that comes bundled with Novell's SuSe Linux. I
don't know if I can get it for Fedora.
Debian has it, which means it has a proper Open Source licence, so you
can certainly compile it if there isn't an RPM.
I have a ton of network folder shares out there from just about every
computer (Mac and Linux share out the User's "home" directory) and my Vista
computer is loaded with hard drives for video, music and photos. I don't
have a problem connecting to the shares from, say, the Mac or the Linux
computer. The problem is with keeping those shares up. The Vista computer
puts itself to sleep fairly often and won't WOL (which is annoying). So,
I've either got to find some other power management software/driver or set it
to ALWAYS ON. That computer uses the most power out of all 5 by far!
The WOL bit isn't dependent on the OS but on the network hardware and
BIOS. I can't imagine a recent machine not having the capability, but
you may need to enable it from the BIOS. If you mean it will WOL but not
when asleep, yes, that's normal. You'll need to configure Vista to
actually shut down instead of sleeping. Oddly, WOL works from full power
off (I forget the S number) but not sleep. RDP also doesn't wake it up,
nor network accesses, so sleep should probably be avoided in a networked
machine.
I'd suggest also that a high power (and presumably noisy) machine isn't
the ideal choice for a file server. Fairly reasonably priced Ethernet
hard drives are available these days.
Ok, I know this is a Microsoft forum... but, Windows SBS server should
"place nice" with these other platforms, right? Well, in theory anyway.
In your dreams. Where do you think most of Microsoft's development
budget goes?
