Monitoring inbound faxes on shared fax SBS 2003

First off, the send/receive of actual faxes works well enough. All users can
send faxes via the shared fax connected to SBS 2003 R2.
The desire, and which may indicate possible problem and/or "that's how it
works by design" is that one person (on a XP Pro workstation, patched and up
to date) be able to monitor _inbound_ faxes - which is now done via the Fax
Console main window. The difficulty with this, is that with the Console
minimized, since the console does not flash as other Windows applications do
when updates occur, the user has to remember to open and check every so
often, so that faxes are not ignored. (old workflow was to glance at fax
machine inbound box to see if there were any pages in it). It's creating a
certain 'nervous tick' behavior which is annoying.
On a laptop I have found the Fax Console Version 5.1, Build 2600, Service
Pack 2), and;
I'd think the Fax Monitor child window in the Fax Console would be the way
to address this - (note that having it always on top is also not a practical
solution.), I'm unable to configure this however, as the options under
Tools->Fax printer Configuration->Tracking(Tab) only shows the local fax
modem/devices under the "Please select the fax device to monitor". This is
strange, as the Fax Console _is_ showing the Shared Fax Inbox, Sent Items
etc. from the SBS server (that is server folder content/queues is displayed
in the main window.
Apparently Fax Console installed from the share FaxClient on SBS 2003
installs; Fax Console->Version 5.2 Build 3790.
This version does not have the above mentioned Tracking option (looks like a
step backwards), and so I am not be able to configure the tracking option
using the Fax Console installed from the server share.
So there are two issues:
1- Why does the 5.2 version have fewer options the XP SP2 ver 5.1?
(Are there separate build tracks, and I can get the XP version to use
on client PCs?)
2- Why does the 5.1 apparently not allow tracking of the server fax device,
only local, but does show the server in/out faxes?
Idea: Can a custom event be triggered from SBS via messenger to the client
PCs?
And last: Maybe there is a different solution I have not found after
checking the KBs, NGs etc?
Any ideas?
Thanks.
