Re: Creating and Viewing a Website

That's wonderful news!! I never thought about trying to "learn" SBS before
actually placing one in production. Although, I clearly stated early that
this server was not in production, your ability to read has clearly
illustrated your vast knowledge.
So here's some free advice, unless you can contribute something worthwhile
to this group, no one cares to hear from you, but I'm guess adding smart
little comments along the way is an ego boost. Have a great day!!

often.)

SBS, as a DC and primary resource for a domain IS NOT what you want to play
with.

Grab yourself the 120 day eval of Windows Server 2003 Web Edition and play
with it to your heart's content. Ask the support groups for that product for
advice. When you wrap your head around IIS and actually get it to work the
way you want you may just about be ready to break SBS.

The step you are leaving out? Walking.

I've got a Windows 2003 Server that I'm learning to work with. I'm
learning
on this so making changes is not that big of deal. I've got Exchange
working
and now I want to try and create and deploy my first website, but having
some
small problems. Here's what I've accompished:

(1) Created a simple website and published it in inetpub folder.
(2) Created a new site in IIS and set home directory
(3) Added an A record in the DNS and FQDN is set to www.abcde.local
(4) From within IIS I can browse the site
(5) From a remote location I can use nslookup and the static IP returns
(6) ISP has a DNS record pointing to my site name
(7) Firewall is open on 80

Problem:
(1) I cant access the new site from any remote location using www or
anything.
(2) Internally I can use the internal IP and get into the site but can not
use www

what step am I leaving out here?
thanks for the help!
