Re: FTP downloads to server timeout after 60 seconds

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I tested to download
ftp://ftp1.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-i386/2.2.9/2.2.9-RELEASE.iso,
which is 142 M. After 11 minutes the download is successfully.
If the KeepAliveTime key is not under
HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip\parameters, please create one:
Type: DWord
Value: 300000 (decimal)
Hope this helps.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Best regards,
Robert Li(MSFT)

<Hi Robert,
<
< Thanks for getting back to me.
<
< 1: As far as I know, there haven't been any changes to the server,
since
<this is a fairly new installation.
< 2: There aren't any ISA or Hardware routes installed.
<
< I've tested this on some of the other servers I have at other sites
and
<they exhibit the same problem. It's probably never come up before now
<because it's a rare situation. I wouldn't care, but the POS (You can
decide
<what that stands for.) software company has chosen this method to receive
<it's updates.
<
<If anyone else would try this on their SBS 2003 Standard server -
< At the server, go to an ftp site and attempt a large download (100+
<Megs) and see if it can complete properly. When I use IE, the download
hangs
<with about 5 or 10 seconds remaining. Smaller downloads are no problem.
<
<
< As far as downloads go, I have used other sites as well as the
<ftp.microsoft.com (Which, at the moment, seems to be down.) The sites
<containing large ISO file downloads like
ftp://ftp1.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD
<are good prospects for large files to test this with.
<
< I will need to wait until this weekend to do the remaining steps,
since
<this is my customer's livelihood we're dealing with, but I did check on
the
<registry setting you inquired about. I couldn't find it on that or any of
<the other servers and I even searched the registry for a "KeepAliveTime"
<value to no avail. I did find the:
<
<HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
<
< key, but no "KeepAliveTime" within it.
<
< Should I create "KeepAliveTime" with a DWord decimal value of "300000"
<and try it out?
<
<Thanks Again
<

<>
<> Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
<>
<> Please let me know the following to make the situation more clearly:
<>
<> 1. What important change did you made before the problem first occurred?
<> 2. Do you have ISA or hardware route installed?
<>
<> Pleased on my research, please take the following steps to narrow down
<> this
<> issue:
<>
<> Step 1: Please download a big file via IE browser from Internet, will the
<> same problem be reproduced? If the problem persists from Internet, it
<> proves the problem is caused by the FTP site, nor out SBS server.
<>
<> Step 2 : Please make a clean boot on SBS server to make sure the problem
<> is
<> not caused third party software:
<>
<> 1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
<> 2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
<> All third party Services.
<> 3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
<> 4. Click OK and choose Restart.
<> 5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
<> 6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable

<>
<> Step 3: Please check the eepAliveTime in registry.
<>
<> Open regedit, go to HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip\parameters,
