Re: Error installing cal

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Once you click on the "Add Licenses" (Wizard) link in the Licensing console,
you will:

1. Click Next
2. Click I agree (to the license), Next
3. Click Internet (to activate the licenses over the Internet), Next
4. At this point, you will be asked to enter your License Code for the new
CALs (the 5 you bought)

SBS does not differentiate between User and Device CALs. It just accepts
the license codes you enter and then calls then Client Access Licenses from
that point on. It's more of an honor system. Actual CAL assignment to
users/devices is to be done by you on a piece of paper (or in a
spread***). The first 5 CALs that come with SBS 2003 can be designated
(by you) as either all Device, all User or any combination of the two types.
You would make you decision and write this down along with the names of the
devices or users who are assigned one of those CALs. After that, you need
to specifically buy either Device or User CALs, enter them into the Add
License wizard and then manually track their assignment.

Merv,

Thank you. That was indeed the issue. I have been able to get to the
license agreement page. I now have another question. On the license
agreement page it states:

Please select the number of Windows Small Business Server User CALs and
Windows Small Business Server Device CALs (which together may not exceed
the
total number of licenses printed at the top of this page) and write them
in
the spaces provided above. No CALs are valid until those spaces are
completed, and you may not change them once completed.

At the top of the page it is listed that I have 5 cals. If I enter 5 in
the
space will the wizard then prompt me to enter my new license keys I got
from
eOpen?

Thanks again for helping me get this far.

Hi,

I am trying to install some CALs on my server. I am unable to get the
Add
License Wizard to work. I can click on Add Licenses and the wizard
starts.
When I click on continue the wizard will sit for about 2 seconds and
then
disappear. I get a notification in my application log file that
states:

I am therefore unable to add the needed license files. Could I have a
corrupt licstr.cpa file? I have searched this newsgroup and found I
should
not have my antivirus scanning this and several other license files and
I
stopped the scanning. I have searched for the autolicstr.cpa to try
the
fixes suggested in other posts, but I don't seem to have this file.
Right
now I have the standard 5 users and I want to add 10 more. If anyone
can
suggest a solution I would greatly appreciate it. If you require more
information please let me know.

Thank you
