The ability to use TS in app mode on SBS was removed in SBS 2003 for good
reason. Its a domain controller with valuable company data on it. Les made
an excellent suggestion-don't ignore it.

Thanks Les for this. This was considered but they are of the opinion that
if
we can utilise something that is already there, why not!
I am curious to know why this would be considered to be treading on thin
ice. It has worked quite well running under SBS 2000 for years (although
have
still had the same issue regarding terminating the session - I never
really
looked into a solution).

Ouch, Chris.
How about setting up an XP box for these users to connect to, RWW/RDP.
You
can leave the data on the SBS, and use the QB program on the XP to access
it. Only good for one user at a time, but that's the way you're using it
now
anyway.
You really are treading on very thin ice with this situation.

Hi all,
We are using SBS 2003 to allow a few user to use a TS session and run
QuickBooks 2001. We do this by setting the enviroment path in the users
settings to start qbw32.exe. This works quite well as the 2 remote TS
session
limit is of no real issue, although of course only one user can use QB
at
any
one time. However, this is also no real issue.
The only snag is that when the user closes QB, the TSsession remains
active.
It is possible to press CTRL+ALT+END and log off, but it would be nice
if
the
asession just closed. The users tend to close QB, the simply disconnect
the
TS session.
Some of the other programs running in the session as keeping the
session
alive. If I look at the task manager I see: -
mrtmngr.exe
qbdagent2001.exe
csrss.exe
rdpclip.exe
ctfmon.exe
winlogon.exe
Terminating qbdagent2001.exe is not sufficent, I also need to terminate
mrtmngr.exe, rdpclip.exe and ctfmon.exe (then exit task maager) for the
session to close.
Is there any way of forcing the programs to close when qbw32.exe
terminates?
At the momement, I set a timeout to end a disconnected session for
about
15
mins. This is just in case the VPN connection fails whilst the usse is
away
from the PC.
Many thanks
Chris
