Re: Unable to reinstall SBS Monitoring

Bruce,

I'm just guessing here, but it's possible the MSDE instance for the monitoring database did not remove the registration from the registry and when you reinstall it it finds the key and it can't proceed. Try uninstalling it again, and then check to see if there are any references to the Monitoring database under 'Services'.

If you find any, don't do anything and just post here so I can look into some references on how to manually uninstall an MSDE instance

Bruce,

My understanding is that it refers to both kind of components. But I don't
believe it matters at this point since you uninstalled WSUS 3.0. What you
want to do now is put the server in Maintenance mode and then reinstall SBS
Monitoring from the Server Tools. See if you still get the error you were
getting when you first posted. If you install without any problems, you can
go ahead and add the R2 components and then upgrade to WSUS 3.0

Costas...

I started on the process outline above...steps 1 and 2 are
done.....But I have to admit I still have a concern with the
procedure. Here it is. Bullet point #3 in your outline above says, "3.
Uninstall Windows SBS 2003 R2 components". My questions is, does this
refer to components such as SBS MONITORING (which is what I want to
uninstall) or does it refer to the R2 technology components? Step 4
refers to the reinstalation of the "components", but on the detail
steps for this, they ask to see "Installing the Windows Small Business
Server 2003 R2 Technologies", for addtional information:

"... For instructions about how to install the Windows SBS 2003 R2
components, see the "Installing the Windows Small Business Server 2003
R2 Technologies" section in "How to Install the Windows Small Business
Server 2003 R2 Technologies" at the Microsoft Web site (http://
go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89370)"

I'm very confused. I think the key here is the context in whih they
use "Windows SBS 2003 R2 components".

I would appreciate your comments...

Thanks,

Bruce

I attempted the reinstall of SBS MONITORING. It failed again.

Here is the last entries in the log from C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs\errorlog.txt and C:
\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server
2003\Logs\eventlog.txt. In both, there is something about the instance
id being bogus...on the last lines Do you think that is the issue? Do
you know what that may be?
Thanks...!
