I can't tell what broke SBS Monitoring but since you decided to reinstall
it, you have to remove WSUS 3.0 first. The following is from Microsoft's
"Installing Windows Server Update Services 3.0 on Windows Small Business
Server 2003"

Uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2
components on a server that is running WSUS 3.0
You cannot reinstall Windows SBS 2003 R2 components if Setup detects WSUS
3.0 on the server. To reinstall Windows SBS 2003 R2 components on your
server, do the following:
1. Back up the WSUS 3.0 databases, updates, and log files.
2. Uninstall WSUS 3.0.
3. Uninstall Windows SBS 2003 R2 components.
4. Reinstall Windows SBS 2003 R2 components in Maintenance Mode.
5. Upgrade WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3.0.
6. Restore the WSUS 3.0 databases, updates, and log files.

mmm....so upgrading WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3.0 broke SBS Monitoring. Now at
this point I'm supposed to uninstall WSUS 3.0 so I can reinstall/fix
SBS MONITORING and then reinstall WSUS 3.0 again? This is a bit too
weird for me...
Please confirm this is your understanding as well and I'll go ahead
and give this a shot....I'm kind of desperate....i wasted two days on
this already...:-(
Thanks a lot...

Sounds good to me. I'll go ahead and go thru that procedure right now.
I'll post back the results...
I apreciate your promt response. Thanks!- Hide quoted text -

Costas...
I started on the process outline above...steps 1 and 2 are
done.....But I have to admit I still have a concern with the
procedure. Here it is. Bullet point #3 in your outline above says, "3.
Uninstall Windows SBS 2003 R2 components". My questions is, does this
refer to components such as SBS MONITORING (which is what I want to
uninstall) or does it refer to the R2 technology components? Step 4
refers to the reinstalation of the "components", but on the detail
steps for this, they ask to see "Installing the Windows Small Business
Server 2003 R2 Technologies", for addtional information:
"... For instructions about how to install the Windows SBS 2003 R2
components, see the "Installing the Windows Small Business Server 2003
R2 Technologies" section in "How to Install the Windows Small Business
Server 2003 R2 Technologies" at the Microsoft Web site (http://
go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89370)"
I'm very confused. I think the key here is the context in whih they
use "Windows SBS 2003 R2 components".
I would appreciate your comments...
Thanks,
Bruce
