RE: Can't delete data in RECYCLER Folder

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Chris,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that you find a file in User's My
Documents/RECYCLER folder, you can't delete that file from server and get
message "Access Violation at address". If that's not right, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

First the folder RECYCLER in My Documents is not Recycle Bin. That's a
common folder. The Recycle Bin should not appear in My Document.

Please try the following on the problematic user's workstation:

Step 1: Please logon the problematic user's workstation, open My documents,
can you delete RECYCLER folder.

Step 2: Please make a clean boot to make sure the problem is not caused
third party software:

1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
4. Click OK and choose Restart.
5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.

Step 3: Please check the steps in the following KB:

320081 You cannot delete a file or a folder on an NTFS file system volume
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;320081

If the problem persists, please help me collect the following information
for further research:

1. The type of the file in Recycle folder and which application created the
file.

2. Screen shot when you see "Access Violation at address"

3. Application Event log on client workstation. To export the application
event log:

1) Click Start -> Run, type EVENTVWR.MSC and click OK.
2) Right click the Application Event, select Save Log File as, save it to
evt file.
3) Email me the file

Please send the information to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:
40523409-Can't delete data in RECYCLER Folder.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
