hi Kj,
Yes the servers have been built up yet. So how can I solve the
authentication problem? I really need this two domains work well with
each other before next Tuesday. Help!!!!
Well Freeoz, what you are trying to do and what you have to work with really
want to be in a single domain / single AD forest. If you want these products
to work "well" together, you really need to either A) Get all three servers
into a single domain. B) Change the products of your choosing to something
that does DFS replication in an "Inter-Forest" environment.
"A)" seems like the logical answer, but the devil is in the details. When a
server is promoted to a domain controller you have only two basic choices.
Create a new domain (and/or tree/forest), or become an additional DC in an
existing domain. Once created, the domain is fixed in relation to the
forest, meaning you can't move the domain up or down the hierarchy.
(Currently there is no "prune and graft" capability for DCs). There is also
no "Interforest merge" ability (currently). What you have is two separate
domains, two separate forests. To get to a one forest/one domain you need to
either A) Discard one domain/forest entirely and recreating new objects
(users, computers, domain controllers, etc) in the remaining domain/forest,
or B) Migrate the objects from one domain/forest into the target
domain/forest. SBS hampers the object migration methods with the same "no
external trusts" constraint as is restricting your existing DFS issue, but
it can and has been done. It is a boat load of work and you'll learn a lot.
So *you* really need to assess the business environment, suitability of the
existing products, and the long term biz objectives - then think about
which solution path (or something completely different) best matches the
business needs.
You may try setting the username and passwords in both domains to be exactly
the same. I'm rather skeptical that this will either work at all or be a
satisfactory long term solution.

I certainly did. Well if you were picking nits you could but then
you have to seize the fsmo roles. Never mind, I goofed.
I just didn't want the OP to think his already built SBS server
could move (or join) to an already existing domain without being
installed anew.

Yes you can join the server to the domain.
I think you skimmed over Freeoz's post too quickly Jim. <g>
2.can I join the sbs 2003 r2 to the windows 2003 domain?
I use ViceVersa by http://www.tgrmn.com/ DFS treated me badly last

3.Do I need to use adprep /forestprep?

I found every time when I login the SBS, the link will become
offline. However, when I type in \\server1.domain1.local\ in th
mirosoft Explore and file in the user name and password, this
ok. the DFS link automatically be online.
But I tried add net use \\\erver1.domain1.local /user:username
in startup.bat, It doesn't work.
Is there any command same as the action of typing in
\\server1.domain1.local\ in th mirosoft Explore?

BTW:Because I couldn't add trust relationship between
Server1 and Server3. So I add a dns record in the hosts
files under the windows\system32\ drivers\etc\ of both
server1 and server3, So they can access to each other in
Explore. and the error message is
..."\\server1.domain01.local\test" ... not
..."\\server1.domainname .local\test" ... Thanks Freeoz
